Teaching Your Kids About Personal Finance
It is never too early to teach kids about personal finance. Many elementary schools are coaching children about money. They encourage students to set up a store of their choice and allow them to ‘do business’ with one another. Fake money and creative imaginations have gone a long way. These children see the results of how quickly their fake money disappears from spending too much or from making bad business choices. In kindergarten, these lessons begin by teaching needs versus wants.
Tips to Teaching Personal Finance
Now more than ever it is vital that we begin teaching personal finance so our youth are prepared for the financial realities of the real world.
Teaching money management skills that are focused on a ‘practical’ financial education will help to reduce debt, increase savings and ensure the financial security of millions around the world.
In today’s age, it is more important than ever that parents start teaching money management skills to their children. Teaching personal finance is not done in most schools due to budget restrictions and other red tape. Schools have a lot of other required coursework they must teach due to the ‘No Child Left Behind’ and teaching financial literacy is not part of that bill.
Teaching Teens Financial Management Skills With A Prepaid Debit Card
A prepaid debit card is different from a credit card in that you are not extended a line of credit from which you can borrow against. Rather, you have to send money ahead of time to the prepaid card and the amount of money you can spend with the card is restricted by the amount of money that you load onto it. While this type of arrangement may not be ideal for you, a prepaid debit card can be an excellent tool for teaching your teenager financial responsibility and management skills.

Times have really changed though and now each day a persons mailbox is stuffed with glossy come-ons from predatory lenders that only point up the fact that banks are no longer the “friend” of the consumer.
